Eastside Stories

This series is dedicated to my good friend, Matt S, who sadly has passed away while living on the Downtown Eastside. He is one of many that have been ignored, looked over and pushed aside for many years. And because of this, I wanted to learn more about who these people are and what makes them tick. The result is a poignant, often devastating look at Vancouver’s most resilient people, the residents of the Downtown Eastside.

The first of this three part series was in the original round of Storyhive, and I haven’t directed anything since. These stories continuously haunt me, and I walk by this area almost every day. While I traveled to impoverished areas in the world often, it still shocks me how this exists in our backyard.
